About UP
UP is Artist-owned and was founded by James Lomax.
Alongside his career as an artist, James spent more than a decade working as a technician for private clients, commercial galleries and leading institutions of historic and contemporary art. Before taking up studies at the Royal Academy schools in 2018 he was the Technical Manager of Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, responsible for delivering the gallery’s programme on and off-site including solo shows by artists such as Dan Flavin, Sheela Gowda, Roger Hiorns, Oliver Beer and Kan Xuan.
Drawing upon an incredible network of art technicians, and artists, James founded UP with a core ethos – to hang artwork to the highest standards, taking utmost care of artworks and the properties that we work in, and paying our technicians fairly to enable a more sustainable income for our technicians/artists.
